Membership Recruitment, Retention, and Fun & Engaging Meetings

Learning Outcomes: Learn how to run a successful recruitment table and strategies for additional avenues to gain members for your club or organization. Understand the 5 “Rs” of membership retention to keep the members you have recruited and run effective, fun, and engaging meetings that make members stay involved.

Leadership Solutions: Members and leaders of clubs and organizations do not always know how to properly recruit members. They throw a table together, sit behind it, and hope for the best. They need to be shown how to recruit in ways that are proven and duplicatable!

Many student leaders do not know how to keep members involved. They run boring or unproductive meetings, oversell their organization, or miss the warning signs of issues that cause members to leave. Retention, done right, can be the best membership recruitment tool!

Your students will learn the techniques, tips, and tricks that Dave employed as a state advisor for a collegiate service organization to recruit more than 10,000 students into membership! These techniques are easy to do, duplicatable by any campus organization, and effective in engaging students who may not normally check out some groups. This is a great kick-off for the school year and/or a second semester recruitment drive, or as part of an officer leadership training, retreat, or any workshop or program that is intended to show your registered student organizations how to recruit more members!

Recruiting members is one thing, keeping them is another. There is a natural ebb and flow to the school year, but it seems that, as time goes on, campus organizations have fewer and fewer active members. Show your students how to engage members with effective involvement techniques and learn the key features of retention, including running fun and engaging meetings, that will keep them coming back.

“Dave Kelly is phenomenal! He spoke to Rider University’s Student Government Association and the clubs and organizations virtually and it felt like we were in the room with him. He is such a dynamic speaker and I would have him come back to campus, virtually or in person, in an instant. Dave shares great insight and is able to easily relate to students, faculty, and staff. ” Allison Koury, Coordinator of Student Involvement, Rider University (NJ)
