Officer Roles, Responsibilities and Transitions

Learning Outcomes: This session will equip all officers to name and define the roles within their organization, to perform their leadership responsibilities successfully, and show how to construct a plan for officer transition.

Leadership Solutions: Student leaders do not always know how to properly transition from one board to another. There is so much that can get left out, even if a minimal effort is made. They need to have a format to transition and an understanding of their duties as a club or organization officer.

Officers in many organizations get elected to their positions for a number of reasons. Many times they are outstanding members who are ready to accept the mantle of leadership. Other times, they are really popular and get elected. And, sometimes, no one else will do it. Whatever the case may be, officers of all organizations need to understand their roles and responsibilities so they can have a great year of leadership and position the organization for success in achieving their goals and objectives.

Officer transitions in most campus organizations usually involve the out-going board waving goodbye as they run out the door! Effective transitions can make all the difference between success and a year of reinventing the wheel.
