Learning Outcomes: New student government leaders and members will learn how to run meetings effectively utilizing Parliamentary Procedure, their roles and responsibilities in their position, keys to advocating for students on your campus, and how to create a vision with goals to support it’s realization.

The SGA Quick Start Package will get them off and running right from Day 1!
One of the best things in student government is to run for a position and get elected! But, then, the real work begins. YIKES! Some students have it all figured out, others have no idea what they are getting into, and still others are in-between those extremes.
The basic package has four programs:
- Creating a Vision and Setting Goals and Expectations for the Year – This program is part workshop, part coaching session and will help your students to coalesce their thoughts, ideas, goals, and visions into a cohesive plan for achievement.
- What is SGA? Student Government 101 – A program customized for you based on your constitution and/or bylaws. Your student government members and leaders will know and understand their roles, as well as the roles of the other positions in SGA. The session can also include a fun gamification of the material in the presentation. One school booked this as a stand-alone program and is required for all candidates running for SGA before they are allowed to be on the ballot!
- Parliamentary Procedure for Student Government – One of the most important things that SGA does is run effective meetings. That means everyone involved needs to know how to make motions, seconds, amendments, debate and discuss the proposals, and more. Also learn the Role of the Chair and Nine Things that Parliamentary Procedure Teaches Us. This is Dave’s most popular session and will help your SGA to get things done! Includes a mock meeting where every participant plays the role of the chair and everyone gets to propose a motion!
- Be a Positive Force for Change as a Visionary Leader – Student governments are the voice of the students on their campus. SGAs can advocate for change and on issues of importance to students. This session will give your SGA the tools it needs to successfully influence decision makers.
The Student Government Quick Start is available either as a virtual presentation, in-person, or blended. Virtual programs can be done all in one day, spread out over a couple of days, or even over a few weeks. In-person can be done in one or two days. Blended? Sure, some schools have me do the Creating a Vision program virtually before I come to campus and then we discuss their goals during the in-person training. Total time of the presentations is 4-5 hours. Note: All of these programs are interactive, regardless of format!
